Why painting.
The answer is of course different for everyone.
For me however, there is no greater thing. No meduim, no other form of art has managed to truly encapsulate me like paintings do.
Standing face to face with another world, and when it truly resonates with oneself. The mind makes room for the soul, as through sight, one surrounding mearly melt away. Ones breath grows longer and slower, blinking rarely if not ever. Hearing the sound of the work rather than the sound of surroundings. Feeling the work beyond its frame.
It is this feeling that I crave, not just in consuming but in creation to. Transporting another human into seeing through my eyes, feeling another world, feeling another's world.
To me painting has the potential to be the greatest form of expression, and words are rarely enough.
About me.
I am a 20 year-old from Helsinki, Finland. I am an oil painter based out New York City.
I feel my life truly began when I left my family in the US to go live alone in Finland at 15. Having been surrounded by artist growin up, i've always been enthrawled by the world of art, and have admired the life of the artist , however it was in Helsinki where I was truly independant did my desire and pursuit reveal itself.
Throughout the rest of school and compulsory military my hunger to paint only grew. Eventually I was able to attend an art school in Helsinki where I felt the happiest i've ever been painting 8 hours a day every day.
Shortly after I became quite ill for about a year and a half. This effected my attendence at a university in Amsterdam to the point where I dropped out.
With 300$, improved health, and a plane ticket to JFK. I left everything again to return to my dream of painting every day. Sleeping on a friends couch for a month, Months later I managed to find an amazing job, and amazing home, with amazing friends, with a functional studio. It's all thanks to this beautiful city of New York and the people in it for have now returned to being able to paint every day.
